LAND BANKING-THE POISE, ROUGH AND REST OF US.

How productive and viable are your thoughts 💭 and action? The life analogy you are about to read and mentally picture is the tale of "the Poise, the Rough and the Rest of us".

About fifteen years ago (1½ decade ago) Ladi a corporate worker hit his first jackpot after he helped his organisation secure a deal in millions, the organisation in turn appreciated him and gave a percentage of the income made. Ladi woke up one morning to see a credit alert of N7.5m on his phone; wow! 'm a big boy resonated through his voice as he hurriedly got off the bed, took his bath, got set for work, inserted his ear piece and scrolled through his music log to listen to the best rhythm he had as he called a taxi. While in the taxi he visualised what comfort the money would afford him; Ladi as a young graduate had thought 💭 of how lovely a life he wanted if only he got a good job that would pay him handsomely. Alas, he got a good job but realities of life soon caught up with him and he appreciated the saying that "the more income made the greater responsibility one shoulders".

On the other side of the divide was an engineer, yes, a road side mechanic by name George who never had the opportunity of going through tertiary education but have mastered engineering skills through apprenticeship. George still manages with his master even after he had graduated and fulfilled terms of agreement because he doesn't have enough fund to get his own space to practice though he had one (1) apprentice and few customers who brought their vehicles to him and are satisfied with his service. Like Ladi, George was diligent at what he does thus they brilliantly mastered their area of specialisation.
Ladi was promoted and honoured as the best staff of the year after appraisal for the fiscal season. To herald this new status and with pressure from home front he decided to take steps and move up the next stage of his enviable life. Ladi picked his noted pad and jotted his "TO DO LIST"; and like most young men with elegant ladies all around them. He decided it was time to get married but before then he needed to change his apartment, wardrobe, buy a car, furnish his house and there after walk the aisle with a grand reception to host family, friends and well wishers.

True to plan, Ladi executed all on his to do list with vast portion of the N7.5m expended, having little over half a million left. About the same time George won a contract and made N4m from the deal, after careful thought he decided to get bigger workshop, buy some equipments he never had hitherto and bought two and a half (2½) plot of land for a combined fee of N1.25m somewhere inside Lekki on the island in Lagos, Nigeria. George spent N2.5m in total with N1.5m left in his account, he made up his mind to work harder and increase his income.

After a few years, unfolding events with increased responsibility and economic down turn ensured Ladi couldn't build his financial base like he wanted and needs became unlimited. George too made up his mind to build on his land which he bought because he couldn't cope with the increasing rent in additional to meeting the needs of his family, hence he decided to sell a portion of the land to finance building a  structure on the remaining.

George sought a property/real estate advisor, a customer of his on the value of land in Lekki/Ajah axis where his land is located, he needed not to pay much for consultation has he leveraged on his technical skills, good character and his customer savvy skills. Pronto! The land he bought for N500k/plot have multiplied in value within a decade and sells for N10m at distress sale. George financed the construction of his home (2 units of 2-bedroom apartment) through the sale of a portion of his land. He had become a home owner and landlord while a more educated Ladi remains a tenant.
Looking through self mirror, we all have a lesson or two to learn but more importantly we need to take the bold step and own a property. Yesterday went without you doing what is right, today is another right and ripe time to make this decision. Where do you fall? Poise, rough or rest of all?

Thanks you!
